Hirsute herb; leaves opposite below, alternate above, entire or toothed; flowers axillary, solitary pedicelled, pinkish-purple; fruits quadrangular; seeds compressed, black.

Distribution :    Cultivated as winter crop.

Uses :  Leaves used to prevent dandruff; seeds used headache and as galactagogue.
