Shrub with rhizomatous stem and pseudostem; leaves oblong-lanceolate with imbricating sheath and stout midrib; inflorescence spadix; fruits with a few seeds or seeds may be absent.

Distribution :    Cultivated throughout the state.

Uses : Fruit used in peptic ulcer.
